Circumcision

Circumcision is where the foreskin is surgically removed, this is perfomed most commonly on infants. Circumcisions are performed for different reasons around the world for example it is common for some religions to have this done to their infants. It was originally thought that being circumsized would provide better hygiene of the penis as the foreskin could not cover and allow bacteria build up on the glans.

Circumcision is no longer peformed as often as it once was as males are able to keep their penis clean by cleaning under the foreskin and glans on a regular basis.

Being circumsized is perfectly normal, as is being uncircumsized.

The following is a diagram of both a circumcised and uncircumsised penis.

Circumcision Diagram

Circumsized vs Uncircumsized

Does having a circumsized penis affect pleasure during sex?

With having foreskin removed there may be some amount of desensitisaton although that amount is meant to be very small. Being circumsized causes no problems during sex at all. The loss of pleasure is very small.

I have a circumsized penis, can I ever go back to having foreskin?

There is foreskin reconstruction surgery available.

Erections

An erection is the enlarged and firm state of the penis. They are what usually happens when you become sexually aroused. They can occur at any time especially during puberty and you dont necessarily need to be aroused to get one.

The opposite of an erection is when your penis is soft or otherwise known as flaccid.

Erection Q and A

I keep getting erections throughout the day and I am really embarrassed in case someone sees it, I keep needing to hide it when I am at school. What should I do?

The best advice I can give is for you to try and distract your thoughts by thinking about something else when you get one.

When I see other guys penises I get an erection, I dont think I am gay though, what do you think?

It seems to me that you are becoming aroused by anything sexual which is perfectly normal. I cant say whether you are gay or not as that is something only you yourself will know and find out. Ask yourself if you are attracted to guys more than girls, if you are not then you most likely are not gay.

Male Masturbation

Male Masturbation

The act of masturbation is normal for males especially during the puberty stages. The majority of males masturbate by “playing with themselves” which can even be just rubbing the penis..

Some males also masturbate their anus by inserting their fingers inside although this is not as common as the above. If you choose to do this make sure to keep your hands clean and washed before and after and also keep your nails filed as they may cause scrapes and bleeding.

Sometimes uncircumsized males will apply a little lubrication to the glans of their penis to aid with masturbation. The majority of the worlds male population during puberty masturbates, some may lie about masturbating but there is no shame in doing so.

Most males will masturbate between one and two times each day on average, some masturbate more which is normal too as long as it isnt interfering with any other aspect of your life like school, homework or your family life.

Masturbating multiple times per day can lead to a shortage of semen, in other words you will not ejaculate as much as if you had not masturbated so many times, your production of semen is indefinite and will always happen but after ejaculating a few times it needs time to replenish.

Masturbating many times per day can lead to soreness of the penis shaft and glans, always give your body time to replenish and relax.

Masturbation Q and A

I masturbate between 6 to 10 times every day, my penis shaft is sore and red, how long should I wait before masturbating again?

It seems that you may have “over done it”. Your penis like any other part of your body needs time to recuperate. You will find that if you dont masturbate as much for example once or twice a day that you wont experience this again. In the meantime I wouldnt recommend masturbating for at least a few days.

When I masturbate I come very quickly, does this happen to other guys?

“Coming” quickly when masturbating is usually down to over excitement and over stimulation. You most likely have become excited very quickly and then ejaculated earlier than you had wanted to. It does happen to other guys especially when they first begin having sexual intercourse. A good way to over come this would be to distract away from masturbating when you are doing it, for example start doing another activity and then return back to it.

Wheres the best place and position to masturbate? I like masturbating when in the garage sitting on the bench?

Where and how you masturbate is entirely your own decision, if you are comfortable masturbating there then that is normal as long as you are not disturbing or exposing yourself to anyone else.

How do you masturbate?

You can masturbate as a male by “playing with yourself”, I will not go into further detail but you should get the idea.

How old is it normal to masturbate at? I am 12 and I do it every day.

The majority of people begin masturbating when they are starting puberty, you may be in the early stages of puberty and have begun which is completely normal.

Normal Penis Size

What is the average penis size?

As you’re going through puberty your penis will start to grow more as well as your testicles. The average penis size varies during puberty, but the average flaccid adult penis size is between 3-4 inches, and the average erect adult male penis size is between 5-6 inches.

If you feel that your penis is small for your age, you should not worry as you are still developing. If you notice your body changing in other ways then everything is perfectly fine.

We have some commonly asked penis size questions below for your reading, hopefully this may answer some if not all of your questions.

Common Penis Size Q and A

I am 15 and my penis measures 3.5 inches, is that normal? I see other guys my age who have much larger penises so it has me worried.

Everyones penis grows at different rates, 3.5 inches is perfectly normal at your age. You may find that some people your age have larger penises than yourself and some may have a smaller penis. You really should never worry as everyone develops at different rates.

Does penis size matter when it comes to having sex? My penis is a little small and I dont think it is big enough to pleasure my girlfriend.

You have no need to worry at all. Sex is not all about how large or small your penis is, you will find that most females do not like very large penises. As a lot of females say “It isnt the size that counts, it’s what he can do with it”.

My penis is 7 inches when soft and 11 inches when erect and I am 16 years old, how will this affect me having sex?

There is a possibility that an 11 inch penis will hurt during sex but there are different positions which will ease such pain. Every female is different, some prefer a larger penis and some do not as it hurts them too much.

Pubic Hair

Pubic Hair Information

When it comes to males pubic hair grows in the following places: On the testicles and around the area above the penis and even around the anus and under the armpits too.

Some males may find that pubic hair may grow up to the navel which is normal and common.

Pubic Hair Q and A

My pubic hair is very long, thick and curly and I am thinking about trimming it back or even shaving it completely off. Is this normal to do, will others think I am weird?

Shaving and trimming pubic hair is very common and a normal thing for males and females to do. The first time you trim or shave you may find that your skin becomes irritated easily around the area you trimmed/shaved, in these cases apply some baby lotion to help with any itching and make sure to use a clean shaver/trimmer each time and some shaving foam/gel.

I brushed my hands through my pubes and some fell out, what should I do?

A few hairs falling out is normal and can be expected even as an adult but if when brushing your hands through you are finding clumps of hair or large amounts are falling out I suggest you visit your doctor.

Should I shave my pubic hair, why is it there?

Shaving your pubic hair is your own choice to make, pubic hair is there as padding and helps with warmth and prevents dirt and bacteria getting inside our bodies to cause infection. If you are comfortable with shaving it and wish to it is common to do so.

I am 13 and dont have any pubic hair yet, is it normal? Help!

Dont fret, you are in the early stages of puberty and pubic hair growth is yet to commence for you. If you wait a few months you will find that it will start growing.

Sexuality – Am I Gay?

Am I Gay?

Many teenagers going through puberty will have thoughts at some point where they question their own sexuality.

Puberty is a very confusing and an emotional time for most and figuring out who you are becomes really important for you to know and includes realising your sexuality.

For some it is fairly obvious what their sexuality is and whether they prefer girls or boys or both, for others it can be torture not understanding their sexuality. In order to determine your sexuality you may like to read some of the questions and answers below.

Sexuality Q and A

I seen another guys penis in the showers after gym class and got an erection, does this mean I am gay?

Not necessarily, you may be simply curious about other guys at your age, this does not mean you will be attracted to males in the future. Having a look around during shower time and checking out the “competition” is perfectly normal. If you are getting erections looking at other males penises then there is more of a likelihood that you are experiencing arousal by looking at anything sexual, many people “get off” over anything sexual. If you find yourself becoming more fond of males in the future then you would most likely be gay or bisexual. A thing to ask yourself would be, do I prefer looking at sexual things related to males or females.

Me and my guy friend had full sexual intercourse after school, we both really enjoyed it, are we gay?

Experimenting is perfectly normal at your age. You will find that a lot of teens will experiment with each other at your ages. Experimenting is part of growing up and discovering new things, if you were to have sex together again in the future then it would no longer be experimenting and you would both most likely be homosexual.

I touched my friends penis accidentally and got an erection, I dont normally fancy boys and I like the look of girls, it was just this once and I felt ashamed afterwards, does this make me gay?

Getting an erection over anything sexual at your age is normal, if you prefer girls over boys then you are most likely straight and this erection was just excitement over something sexual. Do not feel ashamed about this, it happens to many young males.

I had sex with my older brother, am I gay?

Incest is not moral and also illegal in many countries depending on your ages too. I suggest for you to no longer do this. If you were to continue having sexual intercourse I would say that you are both most likely gay if you have no attraction to females.

I like looking at naked girls and naked guys, do you think I’m gay?

Instantly I think you are neither gay nor straight, you seem to be bisexual. Being bisexual is normal and liking both girls and guys does not make you gay nor straight. If you find yourself in the future becoming attracted singly to one sex then you would be either gay or straight but at the moment, you are bisexual.
