Everyone develops at different rates during puberty, your breasts may grow bigger over the coming years or remain the same size. As mentioned above breast size is also determined by body size and genetics.

My breasts are very large for my age, is there anything I can do to help myself as they hurt my back?

There is not much you can do yourself other than buy and wear a correctly fitting and very well supporting bra. You may consider breast reduction surgery when you are older.

Cervical Cancer

Cervical Cancer Information

Cervical Cancer is very important to younger and older females. A few symptoms of Cervical Cancer are abnormal vaginal bleeding, discomfort when having sexual intercourse, vaginal bleeding after the menopause and bad smelling vaginal discharge. These are not always guaranteed to be Cervical Cancer but it never harms to be checked over by your doctor.

Cervical Cancer Q and A

What can cause cervical cancer? I dont want to get it!

There are a few things that can cause it, smoking, regular sex from an early age, have multiple sexual partners in life or have sexual partners who have had sex with multiple partners previously, you have been taking the contraceptive pill for a very long time and also if you have a weak immune system.

What can I do to prevent getting Cervical Cancer?

There is not much you can do other than avoiding the above as much as possible as well as visiting any invited screening tests to be examined as well as making sure to wear a condom during sexual intercourse.

How do the doctors test for Cervical Cancer, like during the smear test?

The gynaecologist will pass an instrument inside of the vagina known as a speculum which exposes the cervix and the cells of the cervix are then sampled with a small plastic soft brush which collects some cells from the cervix for testing. The cells are sent away for testing and if anything is abnormal you may be requested to have a colposcopy which allows further examination. The colposcopy is no more uncomfortable than the smear test and takes a similar few minutes.

Female Masturbation

Female Masturbation Information

Females generally begin to masturbate during the start of puberty. Masturbation amongst girls is very common and a perfectly normal thing to do. When masturbating females may rub their clitoris in order to reach climax (orgasm) which they gain pleasure from.

Some females may choose to masturbate by inserting their fingers inside of their vagina and stimulating their g-spot. There are many masturbation techniques for females too, it is just about finding what is right for you and what you enjoy the most.

Our questions and answers below may help you!

Female masturbation Q and A

I have began to masturbate and I am only 13 is this normal?

Perfectly normal. Masturbation when you begin puberty is very common for girls and boys.

I havent had an orgasm from masturbation, is this right?

The majority of females do not climax through “fingering” alone, the clitoris is what needs to be stimulated and “fingering” does not stimulate the clitoris. Many females during intercourse do not climax as the clitoris is harder to stimulate during penetration and intercourse.

I touch myself and think of other girls and I really get turned on, does this mean I am a lesbian?

If you are finding yourself thinking of other girls more than boys sexually you may be either bisexual or lesbian. You may wait to see how you still feel when you reach adulthood and if you still feel like that you may then wish to go further with this. If you are comfortable to date a female as well as have a sexual relationship then yes, you might be lesbian.

Losing your Virginity

Losing your Virginity

Your virginity is where you have not had sexual intercourse, in other words a penis has not penetrated your vagina and destroyed the hymen. Losing your virginity is often referred to as “popping your cherry” which is related to the destruction of the hymen and also known as defloration. The hymen is a thin and delicate tissue which covers the outer vaginal opening.

Please see the commonly asked virginity questions below for more information about losing your virginity.

Losing your Virginity Q and A

I am 16 years old and still havent lost my virginity, am I normal for this?

You should never think you are abnormal for being a virgin at such a young age. Some people remain virgins for their whole lives due to their religion and such. You could lose your virginity at the age of 25 and still be considered normal. Please see below if you need more information on losing your virginity and advice.

When is it best to lose your virginity?

This question is very general as the only time I think it is best to lose your virginity is when you are comfortable to do so. Sex should never be rushed at all and in my opinion should only be carried out by two partners who are ready and also are in love. When both partners are in love they tend to not regret losing their virginity to each other.

I am 15 and a virgin, I feel so stupid and other girls make fun of me in class. I didnt think sex was such a big deal. I feel like rushing out and having sex with the first guy I come across.

Sex is not a big deal at all but it is important not to be rushed into. If you dont want to have sex with someone you do not need to and you should only have sex when comfortable to do so, ideally when in a relationship with a partner you love and who loves you too.

You will find that these girls making such comments about you have not actually had sexual intercourse themselves and if they have, most likely did so with someone who they regret sleeping with.

As I have said, never rush into sex, especially not with a stranger. You are 15 years old, you should concentrate on your exams and schoolwork, not worry about virginity.

When I lost my virginity I didnt bleed at all, is this normal?

This is perfectly normal, not everyone bleeds the first time they have sex.

I bled really heavily for a while after having sex for the first time, is it normal?

Bleeding after the first time is normal for girls as it is usually caused by the destruction of the Hymen, see above for more information on the Hymen.

If the bleeding is continous and does not stop after a while, make sure to visit your doctor.

Pregnancy Q and A

I had sex once and the condom split, could I be pregnant?

There is a high chance that you may have got pregnant, the best thing to do would be to take a pregnancy test to find out for certain.

I am under 16 and live in the UK and I am pregnant to my boyfriend who is 18+, will he be arrested?

In the United Kingdom he may be charged with statutory rape with you being under the age of 16. I cannot say whether he will be arrested or not but having sex with a minor certainly is not moral.

I have missed my periods for three months, I have been being sick now and then too, could I be pregnant?

Most people would think there is a high chance of you being pregnant as the sickness does make you think of morning sickness immediately. The best thing to do is take a pregnancy test to make sure.

I dont want to buy a pregnancy test from the Chemist, what can I do to find out if I am pregnant or not?

Visit your doctor as soon as possible and they will do a pregnancy test there and then. If you are far enough along the doctor will be able to tell by pressing a little into your stomach.

Should I be ashamed for being a pregnant teen?

Not at all, many teens become pregnant every year and the majority grow up to be great parents. If you ever feel ashamed remind yourself of how your child will be proud of his mum.
